This class will be offered again starting in September and will be re-offered every 8 weeks or so until summer.

Have you been frustrated because you never learned the tricks of the “drawing” trade? Have you painted for years but never really learned to draw first? Time to learn something new? Something that will improve your hand-eye coordination, slow aging and grow your brain connections?

Anyone can learn to draw with the tools I will teach you & lots of practice. Break down objects into their basic elements and shapes, see their edges, notice positive & negative space & composition. Blind contour drawing can enhance your understanding of how to render what you are looking at in a realistic manner quickly. Practice shading & start to understand perspective. Learn the dimensions of the human face and work on a self portrait. Make drawing practice an enjoyable part of every day and you will become comfortable calling yourself an artist!

What to bring: Small sketch book for daily practice, black fine tip markers such as Staedtler pigment liners, 1 medium black marker, 3 colored markers or colored pencils (any colors), a ruler, a small inexpensive paintbrush, a  9” x 12” Strathmore 400 Series Drawing Pad, kneaded eraser, white plastic eraser, blending stumps, drawing pencils.

Minimum class size is 3. Class size limited to 7. 10% of each tuition is donated to the SAA Art Scholarship Fund.

This class will be offered again starting in September 2014 and is re-offered every 8 weeks or so, until summer. It is for those of you would like to learn to use colored pencils, or if you have used them before, come get a refresher class and learn some new techniques. We will be exploring various techniques in colored pencil and will cover: shading and highlights to create volume; building layers of color; burnishing for deep rich color. You will work to enhance your own personal technique and style. You will learn the five basic techniques that form the basis of any colored pencil work and explore new surfaces to use for your work. This great medium allows you to stop and start easily, without any set-up time, and to draw on location without worrying about solvents.

What to bring: Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils (minimum 36 pencil set), a hand or battery operated pencil sharpener, kneaded eraser, hard white eraser, 2B pencil, colorless blender pencil or marker. Bring a selection of drawing papers in colors of your choice, made specifically for colored pencil such as: Canson Mi-Teintes, Stonehenge, Strathmore, Bristol Vellum. Paper should say “acid free, 100% cotton, lignin free” for the best results and archival quality. Check them out online if you are not sure where to find them at www.dickblick.com. Large sheets can be folded and torn into smaller sheets. Other great surfaces for colored pencil are Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor Paper and mat board.

Minimum class size is 3. Class size limited to 7. 10% of tuition is donated to the Art Scholarships at SAA.

This is a soft pastel painting class for those of you who have never tried this wonderful medium, and those of you who tired it years ago and would like a refresher course on the basics. This class will introduce you to pastels and you will see how quickly they go down on the surface, and how brilliant the effects are of these pure colors. Each class will start with some information on pastel painting including: how to make different marks: linear or side strokes; several ways to blend colors on the paper; how to fix your painting before framing. Pastels are very versatile and it is easy to create simple or complex paintings. We will concentrate on landscapes such as fields, mountains, and salt marshes for this class.

Class starts: Thursday, April 17, 2014, and runs for 5 weeks, 10:30am to 1:30pm with a short break. Cost is $135.00. 10% of each tuition is donated to the SAA Art Scholarship Fund.

What to bring: Sennilier Half-Stick Soft Pastels set of 20 assorted half-sticks, Prismacolor NuPastel set of 12, Colourfix Pastel Paper (warm tone pack 9” X 12”), vine charcoal (soft), painting board (to tape drawing paper to), roll of paper towels or rags, paper stumps and an old artist paintbrush (1" wide) for blending, Artist tape 3/4” wide or masking tape. I have set up a Wish List on www.DickBlick.com with the recommended supplies, but you may substitute these with soft pastels of your choice. Once you sign up for the class I will email you the link to this Wishlist. Do NOT buy “Oil” pastels by mistake. We will not be using them in class. You may want to wear clothing you do not mind getting dirty.

To hold your spot please mail a check directly to: Revelle Taillon, 26 West Pine Street, Plaistow, NH 03865.
Class will be taught by Revelle Taillon, member of the Seacoast Artist Association. She holds a BFA in graphic design and illustration and has been teaching for over 3 years. She has worked in just about all mediums. Revelle’s Blog has samples of her work and technique: www.revelleimagemaker.blogspot.com
